Hitch-hiking Resources

Late in 1996 I started to edit a column on hitch-hiking at Suite 101. I had the priviledge of visiting the Australian National library, and the New South Wales State library early in 1997 and collected some resources on hitch-hiking. Later, while on contract at a research centre I had the further priviledge of a scanner, and text conversion software, and an HTML editor, along with access to the web again, so I used the opportunity to convert much of my hitch-hiking file into this page of resources. Since then I've travelled some, collected more, and added things. It is a clearing ground so to speak for the work I'm doing at Suite 101 and a central depot for hitching related material on the web. It is not a list of links outside of this site, I maintain(ed) just such a list at Suite 101, it is a library of material local to this site.

The physical library behind this has grown enormously over the years and it is a long outstanding project to publish many, many, many books and articles akin to thos here in electronic form, if and when I find resources to do that. There exists a sizeable libary of scanned material and first pass OCRed, but there is a lot of work in getting them to a presentable stage yet.

Off-site material

  • The Suite 101 Hitch-hiking column - Links to other hitching resources, and a monthly article on hitch-hiking. This site is in retirement due to lack of time on my part. But it stands as an historically relevant contribution to the hitch-hiking community.
  • Hitchhiking in the Wikipedia - The free encyclopedia for the people by the people.
