The Power of Symbolism - Illustrated

I've included here some of the symbolic images I had lying around in electronic form. It's probably no coincidence that I had these lying around and not others. Sometime I scanned them in to preserve them in a way and/or to share them with friends. I started working an essay around them illustrating my small theory of symbolism, but haven't finished it basically because it was becoming a fairly intimate piece. It was one thing to illustrate a point but altogether another and heavier thing to be laying my very soul on the line. It turns out that of the symbols here, carry meanings for me that run very deeply indeed.

The first three are aquarells of mine dating back some years. They're not especially good, but they mean a lot to me, an awful lot in a couple of cases. The rest are the works of others, and have their place in my spirit as well.

It will be interesting to look in a half years time perhaps to see how many visitors this page has had, and to wonder what they thought of these images. It's hard to imagine that they could guess just how dear they are to me, and why. But that story is one that is fairly intimately connected with the fundamentals of symbolism, and I'll leave to another time, if at all. I may add images here as and when they come to be available in electronic form and/or acquire some deep level of meaning for me.
